7th Grade Art
Geometric to
Organic Shapes Learning about shapes and color Students learned about how primary colors mix to create secondary colors as well as the difference between geometric and organic shapes. In this project, by adding water to their geometric shapes, organic shapes were formed. Students created geometric shapes on the page using stencils to create a balance on the paper and as water was applied, organic shapes began to form. Each and every shape created was then outlined in black marker to complete the piece. Each piece of artwork was a beautiful abstraction of both shape and color. |

7th Grade Patterned Hands, Leaves & Mandelas
7th graders used patterns of lines and shapes to fill the contour drawings of either their hand, leaf or mandela. Students created patterns to demonstrate their knowledge of how contrasting lines, shapes and spaces can make a variety of patterns in their work. Students explored and created patterns inside the contour drawing of a leaf.
Pattern as a principle of art, created with marker creates contrast and balance for a pleasing composition. |

The Illusion of Space
Students created the illusion of space by using size, value, placement, shading, linear perspective, and overlap in their pictures. Each drawing was done in graphite pencil in different weights to make parts of their work appear to be closer or farther away.
Aboriginal Dot Painting
Students learned about Aboriginal culture and the Aboriginal Dot Movement. The Aboriginal people of Australia used sand and bark from eucalyptus trees to record their stories using symbols and dots to obscure their stories so that only those who were meant to read them could.
Greenville students used traditional Aboriginal symbols to create their own stories and used acrylic paints to paint the symbols and the dots to emulate what traditional Aboriginal people may have created. Students not only wrote their own stories, but also shared with an explanation of their stories to the class after students would first guess the story being familiar with the symbols. |
